IN & OUT January 2021

My first DIY/allotment photo of the year is of the mid-January crops. I am at the end of the large leeks, though I still have a dozen or so small ones - but I have some massive brussels sprouts to bring home and another 500g-1kilo are ready the next time I pop along. The weather has been either wet and windy or icy cold and frosty - so no work has been done and I have merely picked crops and dumped compost scraps - and renailed on one roof baton.

February arrived - as did a small fall of snow. I popped along to grab more brussels sprouts and take some photos of the plot. There was something else awaiting me, apart from the magic feeling of snow.

A recent delivery of horse muck meant I was able to top up my compost bins! There is plenty of work to be done - once the icy cold and wet weather passes. I have a shed to paint, strawberry pallettes to create, ground to be dug...but not today!

The next indoor problem, I cannot tackle myself - another case of calling up some workmen to help out. The walls remain with a large damp patch in the spare room.

I have secured a workteam to remove debris AND that disgusting cavity wall insulation my father grabbed when it was on offer 'for free' by the govt. I don't take govt handouts unless I want them, myself....and filling my walls with s-word is not something I myself would choose to do. So, whether it is debris or insulation, both are to be removed! This will take place on my next annual leave, to be taken in March.

One job I did manage to do myself is repairing the side porch door. I did it once before, but it fell off - so this time I have used superglue, duct tape, AND tacks! Later on in 2021, I hope to get the side porch rebuilt - by the same guys who did my gutters etc.

The plumber fixed the front drain and a blocked pipe, and I changed the rear drain. The latter is pictured above the former below.
